Line In Use Message

Keep getting Line in Use messg even though base and 3 handset's are cleared down. Can't get a line, have unplugged and replugged all, but nothing . Compact Combo twin 3525, model 1082713, was ok earlier in day.

There can be many reasons. But, as per the question, the reason behind this could be "co-channel interference" in my opinion. This scenario normally doesn't happen that much.

Conventional telecommunication networks uses CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) or TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) schema for telephone calls. When you attempt to make a call, your service provider allots you with a distinct channel, that carries your data (voice) to the destination. The receiver at the destination also operates on a seperate channel. Since, telecommunication is operated in the RF spectrum, the number of channels are limited and are therefore, shared amongst other users.

When a call is disconnected or a time limit is exceeded, the service provider or specifically, the Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) is responsible to allot a new channel, but only if available. If not, then the call is immediately dropped and the line is tagged as busy until both the users get a new channel.
