Bernina Virtuosa 150 Qe

Hi wonder if anyone can help, I have recently become the proud owner of a bernina vietuosa 150qe tje problem im javing is on the addtional stitches and alphabet it tells me to use foot 1 which i do but all that happens is the needle breaks cant sew any decorative stitches. It feels like the needle just hitting foot please help. Many thanks
