Putting Hook And Hook Race Cover Back After Cleaning 440

After cleaning and oiling the bobbin area, I'm unable to put the hook race cover back on without forcing the cover to fit under the release pin on the left side. My machine doesn't look like the photo in the owner's manual. I have a 440 QE machine.
