My Vu Meters Don't Work

I just got my Q1204USB today and though I haven't had a chance to fully put it through it's paces, I noticed that the VU meters don't work. I definitely had signal going through the mixer; it recorded through to Garage Band. Is there some trick I am not aware of? I didn't test all channels or anything, just had one mic going into channel 1 and I only tried with the USB connected.
