Asus U56e Lid Switch

when i close the lid the laptop goes to sleep as it should. But i have to reopen it several times before the power switch will work. I think there is a problem with the switch or sensor that tells it the lid is closed, which i assume disables the power switch. I was wondering where this switch or sensor is. And how to fix it or replace it.

I presume you are using Windows.

To stop the machine from going to sleep and tell it what to do when you close the lid. You go to the power settings option.

Press 'Start'

Press 'Control Panel'

Press 'Power Options'

Down the left side will be various options open to you.

A: 'Choose what the power button does'

B: 'Choose what closing the lid does'

C:' Create a power plan'

D:'Choose when to turn off the display'

E:'Change when the computer sleeps'

Selecting any of these items will give you a new menu to select the options that you want.

You can tell the laptop not to shut down at all or tell it to turn off the display but not close down.

These are just 2 examples.

You can specify exactly what you want by creating your own power plan with option 'C'

The lid is sensed by a magnetic switch which would be situated on the motherboard and is something that should not really be messed with. It is disabled in the power options of the O/S.

Hope that enlightens you and enables you to have the laptop how you want it.

Why does my laptop go to sleep when I close the lid?

By connecting an external keyboard, mouse, and monitor, a laptop can function like a desktop. ... By default, Windows puts your laptop to sleep when you close the lid. This means that even if you don't want to use your laptop screen as a secondary monitor, you still have to keep it open to keep your computer awake.
