Clean the keyboard. Dirt and dust can build up under the keys and prevent them from working properly. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust and debris. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to clean the key caps.
Restart your Mac. A simple restart can often fix minor software glitches that may be causing the keyboard to malfunction.
Reset the SMC. The SMC (System Management Controller) is a chip that controls various low-level functions on your Mac, including the keyboard. To reset the SMC, follow these steps:
Shut down your Mac.
Connect the MagSafe power adapter to your Mac.
Hold down the Shift, Control, Option, and Power buttons for 4 seconds.
Release the buttons.
Press the Power button to turn on your Mac.
Boot into Safe Mode. Safe Mode starts your Mac with a limited set of extensions and features. This can help you to determine if a third-party app or extension is causing the keyboard problem. To boot into Safe Mode, follow these steps:
Shut down your Mac.
Turn on your Mac and hold down the Shift key until the login screen appears.
Log in to your Mac.
If your keyboard works in Safe Mode, then a third-party app or extension is likely causing the problem. You can disable extensions one by one to see which one is causing the problem.
Update your software. Make sure that you are running the latest version of macOS and all of your apps. Software updates often include bug fixes that can resolve keyboard issues.
Reset the NVRAM. The NVRAM (non-volatile random-access memory) is a small amount of memory that stores certain settings on your Mac, such as the startup volume and display resolution. To reset the NVRAM, follow these steps:
Shut down your Mac.
Turn on your Mac and hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys until you hear the startup chime three times.
Release the keys.
Your Mac will boot up normally.
If you have tried all of the above and your keyboard is still not working, then you may need to take your Mac to an Apple Authorized Service Provider for further assistance.
Please note that some of these steps may require you to restart your Mac. If you have any unsaved work, be sure to save it before proceeding.

Disconnect the keyboard and plug it back in again. Make sure the entire quantity goes into the outlet.
Plug your keyboard into a different USB port or a different Mac. If this resolves the issue, your Mac may need to be repaired. Contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for service. They may employ untrained personnel or use non-original Apple parts on the safety and functionality of the device.
Need a different keyboard for Mac? If this resolves the issue, you may need to take your keyboard in for service.
If none of the keyboards on your Mac laptop's built-in keyboard work
Your Mac has shown an alert about battery charge level but you can't. Connect your Mac to an outlet or connect an electrical keyboard to your Mac for external reading.
If the Media Eject key or Caps Lock key is not working
Try pressing missing for some reason. These keys have a short delay to prevent instantaneous accidental pressing. Press and hold the media eject key until the media icon clicks on the screen, and press and hold the V82; key until the key indicator lights up.
If other keys don't work
You may inadvertently make a choice that changes the way your keyboard works.
Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Accessibility in the sidebar, then click Keyboard on the left. (You may need to go down). Make sure the keychain is turned on. In slow operation, a key must be pressed for a long time due to the difficulty of the action in order for it to be recognized.
Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Accessibility in the sidebar, then click Pointer Control on the left. (You may need to go down). Make sure the mouse switch is turned on.
Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Keyboard in the sidebar. (You may need to go down). Click Edit Items next to the entry on the left, then turn on the "You will find the entry menu in the menu bar." Enter the input menu, and then make sure you select the correct keyboard layout.
