Unlocking Iphone 4

Hi, I recently purchased an iPhone on contract in the USA and have travelled to the UK for 5 weeks hoping to use my phone on a UK pay as you go network during that period, before returning to the USA. Is it possible to unlock my iPhone 4 for this period? Grace Riley-Adams
