Hardware logic corrects up to 16 symbols(20 bytes) errors on-the-fly. 2 symbol System ECC is generated when HDC receives user data from HOST, and can correct up to 1 symbol(10bit) errors on-the-fly when one transfers to HOST. 23/188 5.8 Travelstar 5K160 (PATA) Hard Disk Drive Specification ECC The 10 bit 40 symbol non interleaved ECC processor provides user data verification and correction capability. The first 6 symbol of ECC are Read Solomon ECC.
