Can I assume you need a USB cable to hook this up?

The fastest way will be to pick one up at Walmart or Radio Shack.

Check the back of the printer to identify what cable it needs.  See this image for connector types: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/img/usb.jpg
