Intermittent Heating Problem

Our Whirlpool Gold microwave stopped heating. After trying a variety of setting I was able to get it to heat water twice. But now it isn't working at all. I've called a technician but they won't be able to come out for a couple weeks. Id this worth fixing..? Or Should I just plan on buying a new unit..?
