Virgin mobile had a system outage. I have heard 10pm central time or at the latest monday. Im share your frustrations very much so.

My son was having the same problem.  It happened several times.  I finally got someone at tech support who could help me and informed me that he had too many in his inbox.  Once he deleted the inbox and restarted the phone, all his other messages came through.  She said you should keep your inbox to 20 messages or less.  Hope it helps!

Virgin Mobile uses phones with a limited amount of internal storage.  Once their phones reach it's limit, they cannot recieve any more.  Have her delete all of her text messages.  Makes sure she clears them around 100 or so.  Also make sure she is storing her photos to her sd card.

She has to call virgin mobile from her house phone and keep her phone on. She will be given some digits and codes to enter on her phone. After that her phone will work properly! I had this issue and it was solved now I am able to do anything.
