No United States English Option On Setup Menu

I have a KDL-40EX720 TV I purchased from a US military base exchange while stationed in Germany. On setting it up, now that I am in New York, I cannot find an English option for the U.S. I used Australia instead and cannot get my TV to recognize my cable provider when when the TV searches for networks. i am not using a box, just connecting through the cable into the back of the TV. Could not having a U.S. option for language affect my ability to connect to the cable?
