Error With Darning/embroidery Foot C 01.

machine is less than a year old. Very lightly used. I wanted to stipple quilt and followed the instructions in manual for putting on the darning foot and lowered the feed dog. Set stitch to straight stitch. Places fabric, batting and back fabric in machine and needle will not continue through the piece and grab the bobbin thread. The hand wheel will not move any further in the forward motion. I am manually turning the handle wheel to begin this first stitch and tried to just use the foot peddle to begin. However I get the same error message every time. I did check to make sure there is no thread tangled in the bobbin case. Any suggestions?
