Thread Underneath Fabric In Large Loops.

When sewing the thread under the fabric comes in large loops. The tension wheel of the upper thread seems to have no effect. The resistance to pull out the thread feels the same independent of the tension wheel position i.e. in pos. 1 or pos. 9.Last time I used the machine I had no problem which was some years ago. It has not been used since then. Any suggestions what to do would be much appreciated./Hans
