Run chkdsk /r (google for instructions). Download the latest version of Samsung's HUTIL free factory diagnostic software (sometimes called ES-Tool). I suggest the ISO version to make a bootable CD and run from there.  In the hundreds of computers that I have fixed, only once did a bad hard drive pass the diagnostics but it failed a stress test. Therefore, after all is done, download and run the free program StressMyPC. Run just the hard drive stress and let it run overnight. If everything passes and you still have problems, then you probably have an infection or corrupted file system that cannot be fixed by chkdsk. Try a non-destructive repair. Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for the procedure for the flavor of Windows you are using. If that is not possible, you can then wipe and restore but you will loose all of your data. Try recovering important data by mounting the hard drive as an external to another computer or boot from a Ubuntu Live CD and copy the important files to a USB memory stick or external hard drive first.
