If your 2004 Pontiac Bonneville's AC is blowing hot air and there is a rattling noise when you change the settings, it is likely that there is an issue with the AC system. Here are a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps you can take:
  1. Low refrigerant: Insufficient refrigerant levels can cause the AC to blow hot air. It's possible that there is a refrigerant leak in the system. In this case, it is recommended to have a professional mechanic inspect the AC system, locate the leak, and recharge the refrigerant if necessary.
  2. Faulty AC compressor: The rattling noise could indicate a problem with the AC compressor. A failing or worn-out compressor may not be able to effectively cool the air. A qualified mechanic can diagnose the issue and determine if the compressor needs repair or replacement.
  3. Blower motor or blend door issue: The rattling noise when changing the settings could be related to the blower motor or the blend door actuator. The blower motor is responsible for circulating the air, while the blend door controls the temperature and directs airflow. If these components are damaged or malfunctioning, they may need to be repaired or replaced.
  4. Electrical issue: It's also possible that there is an electrical problem causing the AC system to malfunction. A loose connection or a faulty control module could result in hot air and rattling. An automotive technician with electrical expertise can diagnose and resolve any electrical issues.
