Sensormatic Buttonholer Not Working

I have attached the buttonholer as per instructions plugging it in to the hole behind the light but the machine does not seem to be sensing it because when I try to set the length using the left and right arrows on the wheel I just get a beep, no display like in the manual with the arrows and number below the stitch picture. Any ideas what I am doing wrong. I know I have used it before (not recently) with no issues.
