All My Light Stay On Ign Is Off And Key Is Not In

Was checking float in gas tank and connection,because gas gauge wasn't working,now have this problem was running fine now won't start!! and dash lights,headlights stay on key off

When you first turn a car on, all lights should illuminate as this is a "bulb check" to show you which bulbs in the cluster are good and which ones are not. Then most lights will turn off after 5 seconds except for the check engine light, alternator light, and oil pressure light. The check engine light stays on when the engine is off to show you that the check engine light bulb is working and someone did not just remove the bulb to hide the check engine light. Older cars do not do this and the check engine light is off even with the engine off if the key is in the on position and there are no fault codes stored in the car's computer. The alternator light is on when the key is on and the engine is off because the alternator is not being spun by the engine and is not generating any current. That light turns off when the car detects 13 volts from the alternator. The oil pressure light is on because the engine is not spinning and nothing is spinning the oil pump, so there is no oil pressure. So it is normal to have those three lights on with the engine off and the key on. On some cars, more of the lights stay on if the engine is off but the key is switched on.
