Coolpix S3000 Screen Issue (very Dim)

Hi, I just recently bought a S3000. Once i charged it up for the first time, i tried to use it to take some photos, however when i turn on the camera, the LCD screen is VERY dark. I am able to just make out what the camera lens is picking up. From what i can tell, the camera takes pictures fine and the pictures themselves look alright - i just can't seem to see barely anything on the screen! I have also been able to navigate through the menu to try and change screen brightness, and have set it to the maximum level of 5 but without success... Please help! Thanks Ed
