Unfortunately, it could be a lot of things, but I would replace the fuel filter first. The fuel filter is under the car, probably along the driver's side frame rail. I have added a photo to show you what it looks like.
If that doesn't work, there are many other options. Spraying carburetor cleaner into the throttle body may help, if a dirty throttle body is the problem. Just be sure to spray it with the car running and have a friend rev the engine to keep it from stalling. Spray it at arm's length, in case of a backfire. Carb cleaner is very flammable.
Another option is to replace the throttle position sensor (TPS). That part is located in the throttle body area and is easy to replace. A defective TPS could cause the problems you are having with the car.
Hopefully, one of these steps will correct the problem.
