Mine has recently done the same thing, except it happened when i was driving to work. The same night, I took it home and lifted the car. Found that the brass tubing for the power steering line had been rubbing against the suspension (stupid location on Ford's part). It wore out a pretty large section in it. I have a 2000 Cougar. I don't see yours being to different. It is located behind the passenger side tire. Two pipes connected together. Hope this helped a little. It is much cheaper to change the pipe than it is the pump.
