I do not recommend seeking magicJack's chat help, which will prabably prove a waste of your time. magicJack’s customer support is for the most part magically lacking. You may wish to try these instructions. You can also reset the device, as explained here. Or consider "Running MagicJack as System" as outlined here.

If however the device is defective, you may be able to return it. If you bought it from magicJack, the instructions are at http://my.magicjack.com/returns.html.

It sounds like a connectivity issue with Magicjack.
Please visit this link: http://www.magicjack.com/techchat/
and type in "connectivity issues" press search
Then click on the banner that says "I am online - Start Chat"
This will bring you with a live MJ representative. They can determine if it is a hardware issue or a connectivity issue.
