How Do I Add Songs

I want to add songs from I-tunes to my lgc395 phone and it says error when i hook up to computer and then disappears, it charges but the computer acts as if nothing is there and phone acts as if its a wall charger. i have a Compaq windows 7 pc is it possible to add my songs?

the way i put some is by putting mass storage then put in my computer i drag them to external memory
