Too Dim; Brightness Issue!!

My husband just bought the tv, and the guy said it was a great tv. It's a weekend, and we can't call him. We cant get it brighter and we tried the directions to how to do it, and still nothing happens. It is real dim. Please advisea.s.a.p. like now?? Thanks!
