Why Does Protect Show On Display?

Kenwood head units will go into PROTECT mode when the unit detects a short on a speaker wire or a speaker. The easiest way to diagnose the problem wire or speaker is by: 1- Disconnect all speakers from the Kenwood wire harness 2- Connect one speaker wire and check the display. 3- If the display does not show PROTECT, continue on to the next wire 4- The display will show PROTECT when the problem wire or speaker is connected 5- Replace the wire or speaker. If the display shows PROTECT with all the speaker wires disconnected, then there is an internal problem and the unit will require service
