Question posted by Dannyh on September 25th, 2011

I Am Seeking The Service Manual ( Not The User Manual) For A Jvc Hd 56g787 Tv.

I bought this television 4 years ago. I have just replaced the lamp with a new JVC lamp. The picture was beginning to darken at the end of the last lamp hours. My picture will not brighten to an acceptable level during daylight light. It is barely acceptable during dark hours. I have made every adjustment possible within the user settings such as brightness, picture, dynamic gamma etc. The picture just will not brighten up.. It is not the lamp as I checked it with another extra JVC lamp that I have available. I have cleaned the front part of the TV, screenn inside and out. All available parts that could be cleaned with the front screen off. I looked down into the light engine cavilty (I think) while I had the screen off and viewed what I think is the color wheel,,,,it is dirty and had debris laying in it. I could not get to it to clean it properly. It is a very fragile part and will need to get inside the light engine itself to properly clean this an other parts. Anybody have any thoughts, ideas. Have talked to a tv repair  person and he indicated it was a light engine failure, which will put the TV in the graveyard. I am trying to find a work around.

Thanks Dan, I have tried the pause picture with a white screen on a DVD as you suggested and do not notice any color issues. Seems as if the color on the tv is fine.

Hate to send this thing to the graveyard. I really need to find out how to access the optical engine area. When I disasembled the front and top part of the TV I could look down into a small cavity in the bottom part (where the optical engine is located) and could see gobs of dirt and debris.

Does anyone know how to access and open the light engine area for cleaning. I have seen on post indicating that JVC makes it fairly simple by  taking the bottom rear panels off and the light engine area slides right out???? I realize this is a very delicate area to be messing with, but I feel confident that if I can get into this area, a cleaning will improve the brightness and remove the dark shadow spot I have which is in the upper center part of the picture.

I have researched this issue with the JVC TV and have found it to be a fairly common problem with these televisions.

Can anyone give me a fairly good step by step idea of how to get into the optical light or light engine area for cleaning?

I have now removed the back cover and have slid the entire lower assembly and guts of this tv out. I found the outer areas to be dirty . I have used compressed air and a vacuum cleaner to clean most of the outer area. Now I am facing how to access the inner areas for cleaning.

I guess my question is....once the guts of the television have been pulled out of the rear....how do you access the internal areas around the light engine or optical engine.

You have heard correctly, it's the optical engine. This is a HDila not a DLP so there is no color wheel, There is a possibility that you could pull the engine out slightly and wipe the lens and increase the brightness very slightly, or you could attach a dowel to a duster and do he same thing through the side access holes.

To prove the engine is the problem, put a white picture on the screen (pause a DVD when such a picture occur) and look for discolorations. you will see areas on the picture where it's yellowish or other colors. The lamp puts out so much heat into the engine that a white powdery film accumulates on the optical components, reducing the amount of light that passes. I had such a TV that the customer decided to not fix. I tore into it and tried to make it better. I spent hours and when I was done it was maybe 10 better, but the areas I need to get to, were not accessible. I gave it to a neighborhood kid to play video games on.
