Hi. Do you otherwise have an email account associated with your Huawei Y220 device? I also assuming you are able to perform other data-depended related tasks like Whatsapp and Internet Surfing. If yes, then go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Gmail > clear data & cache. After this retry using the Gmail app.
