Setting To Conserve Ink?

I mainly use my HP F4580 to print out text pages from my 3 online textbooks. What setting will save the most ink? I currently use the fast/economical setting, but if i'm mainly printing text, should I use "grayscale"  or "Black only" to save the most ink?  (because we all know this printer just loooves to drink the ink!) I'm not too concerned with print quality, as long as its legible. I bought this printer because I thought the refill cartridges were reasonably priced, but they don't ever print anywhere near the amount are supposed to and its just getting ridiculously expensive! I'm just a poor college student (literally!), please help me out!
