Hp Dc7100 Sff And Raid 0

I have old but pretty fast hp dc7100 SFF (3,2 GHz, 2 GB, DDR 333 MHz RAM, AMD DH Radeon 3450 Low Profile Card) handy PC for Windows XP and have Windows 7 (32-bytes for it too). I have 2 same size hard disks (Seagate 160GB and Hitachi 160 GB). Both of them are SATA-hard disks. OS is Windows XP Professional SP3 and updated. I have updated the latest bios, cos i have heard, that RAID 0 is possible install without F6-button afterwards. I have Installed Win XP and some programs to the HD 1 and the HD 2 is empty. I don't need much space and that is my extra PC just for fun, but i'm interest in learning, could i install RAID 0 without the new full install of Win XP. If i have understood right, RAID 0 is faster with 2 disks than RAID 1 (mirroring) and much faster, than only 2 normal sata-disks. I'm I right? I think RAID 0 is easier to install ito Windows 7, but the problem is, that some classical older PC-games will not run in Windows 7 and that's why i wanted save Win XP until April 2014, when Microsoft will stop the support for Win XP How i can get RAID 0 to my PC?

Sorry to tell you this but if you plan on using hardware RAID 0 with this PC (or any PC) it will require a complete reinstall. Converting from non-RAID to RADI is a desructive operation. No way around that.

Now XP does support software based disk striping (RAID 0), but not mirroring (RAID 1). You can mirror two drives and not destroy the data. https://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=830&page=5.

RAID 0 is striping. Basically tacking disk 1 onto the back of disk 0. Sort of like glueing 2 pensils together end to end. Understand that if one disk fails you will lose everything in this scenario.

There is a hack that allows XP Pro to support RAID 1 and 5 but it's risky. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/237282-45-breaks-software-raid-hack.  And as noted SP3 breaks this hack.

If you really want to do this you need a different operating system.

I really recommend that if you truely want to do this that you consider a hardware RAID controller. Again, that will require a full reinstall of the OS.
