Ge Profile Refridgerator Psds5ygxcfss Coils Icing Up. Freezer Works Ok

Icing inside the refridgerator coils causing higher internal temperatures. Freezer works as advertized. Ge profile psds5ygxcfss 3 years old. When we originally found the temperature rising we called a tech.He came out imediately opend the fridge door and went to the coils area. He pointed out the ice on the coils and then told us to defrost the coils and everything should be good. Two weeks later the coils are starting to freeze again and the temp is rising. Temps are in the area of 42 to 50 degrees depending on the time of day.

If the tech just defrosted the coils and said that would fix the problems, get a new tech or call a different service company.

Your defrost system is not working and on the GE Profile it is most likely the thermistor on the evap coil has gone bad. However the defrost heater and or defrost bimetal switch can be faulty. Least likey is a bad control board . A service tech needs to check all of the above or he's not doing what you paid him for. Call him back and make sure he does what you already paid him to do!!!!

< problem diagnostics, on GE motherboard fridge.

The most common cause of a GE Refrigerator not defrosting, is the heater.

1.Verify that you have a full frost pattern and a No Defrost condition.

2.Remove main board cover from rear of unit

3.With unit unplugged, use an ohmmeter to check resistance between Defrost pin on J9 and neutral wire on J7 connector. A good circuit should read aprx 27 ohms. (Alternately, you may use a flat blade screw driver to short between defrost pin and line pin at the J9 connector- looking for amperage draw)

4.If resistance is good or heater draws amperage, check the evaporator thermisitor ( this is the device that terminates defrost) on the J1 connector between pin 4 and pin

5. ( do this test with the connector removed from the board, measuring at the connector) Compare resistance found to the resistance/temperature chart on page 4. Resistance should be greater than 36,000 ohms.

5.If good, change the main board.

See link above for diagnostics sheet.
