Using The Find Waypoint Feature In My Garmin Gpsmap 78

Then I use the find feature and select "manage waypoints" I see a keyboard below the first 2 waypoints. When I start to spell the name of the waypoint I'm looking for - i.e. the first letter - and select enter the unit turns off. Can you please tell me what I might be doing wrong. I have tried help from Garmin and the advice I've received so far has not worked (changed out GPX file on garmin web site). Thanks for your help. chris
