Hello Jla625 -

I am not sure if the water leaking and burning smell are related. Before and during the spin cycle, the drain motor is supposed to continuously drain the water out of the washing machine. If the drain pump is not working or is restricted, the centrifugal force created as the tub spins can cause the water to rise up the sides of the tub and overflow. I would start by verifying that the water is draining out of the unit properly. Another possibility is the tub seal could be leaking. This may be happening throughout the entire cycle, but only appears external of the unit during spin. If the tub seal is leaking, it will expose the tub bearing and potentially cause it to fail as well. This will result in additional strain on the motor and belt, and may result in a burning odor. At this point, I would personally contact a professional to accurately diagnose the washer to determine the root cause to reduce the risk of unnecessary parts.
