Computer Wont Recognise Connection

I have tried installing the software for my new Epson NX130 no less than 8 times. Every time I get an error message saying it doesnt recognise the connection. The advice they give is... make sure your printer is turned on and the usb is plugged in. It is. Yes, every time I have tried to install the software... I have made sure I uninstalled the half finished download.
