Ac Power Adaptor/no Battery Charging Issue.

My XPS 15 L501x battery has stopped charging after 2 years, I have bought a new battery but the problem remains, the new battery arrived with 30% charge. The laptop works off of the mains but will not charge the battery. The error message is: The AC power adaptor cannot be determined.......battery will not charge. The AC adaptor is not detected in the bios which is version A06. Any ideas?

Hello chetadrian,

I am from Dell Social Media and Community.

Try connecting your AC Adapter on another known good system or known good AC Adapter to your system. If the issue persists either ways, it is your AC adapter. If not, you may have to replace the motherboard.

Check your warranty status on your system and contact us if you need any support in replacing parts.

Check the following steps:

1 Turn off laptop.

2 Unplug AC power.

3 Remove battery.

4 Replace AC power.

5 Turn on laptop, allow OS to boot.

6 Once logged in to the machine, perform a normal shut down.

7 Unplug AC power.

8 Replace battery.

9 Replace AC power.

10 Turn on laptop, allow OS to boot. The battery should once again be charging as normal.

If the situation has not been changed, either your laptop dc jack is broken or your laptop ac adapter is malfunction. I suggest a new laptop charger or replace the dc jack. If you need a new laptop ac adpater with good quality at low cost , please have a look at the following power cord:
