My Heater Worked But Needed Blower Resister Replaced - Now Won't Run - Solution?

My blower motor was continually running in my 2004 Pacifica. Heater/air worked fine. Mechanic said to replace Blower Resister ($180) so I can shut off blower. He replaced resuster and now ALL have stopped working after a 1-2 hours of heater use. Now mechanic thinks motor needs replaced. I feel I should have left well enough alone (it was running/heating). I have a new resister (not running) - now does the blower motor need replaced?
