Overheating And Now A Head Gasket Damaged

When I got the car from a family member I was told that it has been overheating and had corrosion covering most of the parts under the hood. The car can only drive 2 to 3 miles before it begins overheating and leaking from the radiator (I think) after I add water to it. If it cuts off due to the overheating often it'll shut off the battery capability and until it gets a jump start it is dead. Now I'm experiencing no start up even after the battery gets jumped, although the lights do come on prior to trying to get it started. I hear a tick, tick, tick from under the hood and no ignition to the engine. Do I have a starter problem?

The most common reasons a Chrysler Pacifica is overheating are a coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.), the radiator fan, or a failed thermostat.

Can overheating damage head gasket?

Your car's engine operates in extreme conditions with intense heat. If this heat becomes more than normal, your engine can overheat causing a blown head gasket. The extra heat results in the cylinder head and engine block expanding too much which results in a failure in the head gasket.
