Van Overheating And No Heat

we just replaced the radiator and thermostat in our 2004 Chryslar town and country van 3.3L . with thermostat in and out it overheats at times and other times it doesn't. We have tried everything we can think of and it doesn't make a difference. Please can someone tell us what the problem is. My Husband is very handy with this sort of thing but just can't figure it out. I really don't have the cash at the moemnt since he has been out of work since Huriccane Sandy to take it too a repair shop.
