A syntax error can occur or take place, when an invalid equation is being typed on a calculator. Which means their is an error in the equation.

I hope this is helpful? PLEASE "ACCEPT" and mark it "HELPFUL" to complement my little effort. Hope to bring you more detailed answers.

The syntax error is likely occurring because you are trying to use the colon symbol (":") to separate the three parts of your equation. The colon symbol is not a valid operator in the Casio fx-991ES PLUS calculator.

To fix the syntax error, you can try separating the equation into multiple lines using the "SHIFT" key and the "EXE" key on your calculator. Here's an example of how you can input the equation:

  1. Press the "SHIFT" key and then the "AC" key to clear the calculator.
  2. Input "X=" and then press the "Ran#" key, followed by the "2" key, and then press the "+2" key. This will generate a random number between 0 and 1 and add 2 to it, and store the result in the variable X.
  3. Press the "SHIFT" key and then the "EXE" key to move to the next line.
  4. Input "Y=" and then press the "Ran#" key, followed by the "12" key, and then press the "+4" key. This will generate a random number between 0 and 11 and add 4 to it, and store the result in the variable Y.
  5. Press the "SHIFT" key and then the "EXE" key to move to the next line.
  6. Input "A=Y-X^2" to calculate the value of A using the values of X and Y.

This should allow you to calculate the equation without encountering a syntax error.
