Locate the mode actuator. It is located in the center console, under the climate control panel.
Disconnect the power to the actuator. You can do this by disconnecting the connector at the back of the actuator.
Use a 9-volt battery to reset the actuator. Touch the positive terminal of the battery to pin 5 on the actuator connector, and touch the negative terminal of the battery to pin 7 on the actuator connector.
Reconnect the power to the actuator.
Test the actuator to make sure it is working properly.
Here are the steps in more detail:
Locate the mode actuator. The mode actuator is a small, black box that is located in the center console, under the climate control panel. It is usually held in place by a few screws.
Disconnect the power to the actuator. You can do this by disconnecting the connector at the back of the actuator. The connector is a small, black plug with two wires.
Use a 9-volt battery to reset the actuator. Touch the positive terminal of the battery to pin 5 on the actuator connector, and touch the negative terminal of the battery to pin 7 on the actuator connector. Pin 5 is the furthest terminal to the right in the connector cavity.
Reconnect the power to the actuator. Once you have touched the battery to the two pins, reconnect the connector to the actuator.
Test the actuator to make sure it is working properly. Turn on the car and try to change the mode of the HVAC system. If the mode actuator is working properly, it will move the blend doors to the desired position.
If you have followed these steps and the mode actuator is still not working properly, you may need to replace the actuator.
