2002 Stx Cadillac Owner Question. What Is The Purpose Of The Warning Light Box I

In the rear window is a warning light box. But when driving at night the red light in the middle stays on. Why?

These warning lights or called your third light are usually supposed to be on much the same way a taillight stays on and then brightens when you step on the brake. If yours is staying bright like it's being actuated or is staying dim like your normal taillight brightness then I believe your bulb has been replaced before with an incorrect bulb. These bulbs have small nubs that usually prevent that but you would be surprised how often I have seen it done. Usually a 3157 and a 2157 bulb being used in each anothers place. If this is not the problem which would surprise me I would look at the socket itself for a short. Good luck.
