If your systems hasn't been converted to the new R134a freon which from the info provided it probably hasn't. More than likely the seals are cracking & it won't hold the refrigerant. I've experienced the conversion from r-12 to r-134a, this conversion lasted about a year. If you want to give the r-12 system another try you'll need a charge meter, best to buy separate from a recharge kit that has an attached meter, it can be reused. This video will help you through the recharge process. the process will be this same for each refrigerant. Hope this helps.
