Quilting Guide And Walking Foot

Hi: I purchased a quilting guide (a metal stick) that's supposed to be screwed into the foot of the sewing machine.  Then I realized there's no such spot on the regular foot (sorry I'm new at this and don't know what it's call...basicaly the foot that came pre-installed on my Brother XL-2600i).  Does that guilting guide have to be attached to the "walking foot " for this model?   your time and assistance is much appreciated.
