Paper Jam On My Mfc-j220

My brother MFC-J220 printer always show error "Paper Jam" even without a paper inside the tray, when i open the back cover, there's no paper stock inside. how could i troubleshoot/repair this one? what could be the possible defect of my brother printer, is it possible that something hardware would be the damage...please tell me if i buy new one...Thanks!

There almost certainly is a remnant of paper when it was loaded. Paper jams are often elusive. See the tips at http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000980.htm.
