A Spool Of Thread Has Wound Itself Around The Hand Wheel?

The motor began to labour & I stopped the machine immediately. I removed as much of the thread as I could, but some broke so I know there is still thread tangled in there. How do I remove the hand wheel & or the cover plate to clear it. Hoping you can help.
