Front Display Panel Not Illuminating

At first i thought this was a comfigurable option, but haven't been able to find any info on it in the manuals. My front red display panel is always off -- the unit has power and washes just fine, however the panel does not light up. The red light at the bottom indicating is use functions normally. any thoughts? Thank you!!!
