When Overlocking Heavier Fabrics (flannel, Corduroy) One Of The Threads Skip.

When this happens, it continues to overlock, but the "security" stitch just remains unstitched and pulls along with the fabric. Then I need to go to my sewing machine and restitch that area that was missed with the security stitch. The repair service says that nothing can be done. Is this common?
