Claims Disbursement

Why is the claims disbursement process so cumbersome and slow in this age of technology and access... I sent in my insurance check via federal express but am now told it can take 3-5 days for a vendor number, another 2-3 days to cut a check and 5-7 days to deliver the check via SNAIL MAIL...meanwhile my house to which BOFA holds the mortgage has no roof.
