I hate to say this, but airline tickets are usually valid for 1 year from date of issue. It's very doubtful you'll have any credit remaining for a ticket that old.

But I would certainly recommend you contact American Airlines to find out for sure. Call 1-800-433-7300 and give them your old ticket number so they can confirm for you.
