Flight Change Fees

I have a flight booked for Oct 20-22 and needed to just move the return flight to a later time due to a time conflict and I am told it carries a $150 penalty...that's horrible, I'm not cancelling and I know that flight is not booked. I'm over 3 weeks out on the change so why the huge fee? I was then told if I call 12 hours in advance of my return flight they might be able to do it for a lesser fee..what's with that???? My flight is from Mpls to Montgomery and back.. It's not like you print tickets and since I went through a travel agency, you didn't do anything with the paperwork, what's the deal?? not only do you charge for luggage, furnish no meals and most of the time we have to deal with computers, not a ticket agent, but when you do, you certainly get the feeling they think you're pretty dumb!!! And on top of it all, they won't work with me and waive the fee.
