Macular Degeneration - Is This Covered Under Aflac Hospital Insurance Policy ?
I have this desease in my eyes and have three policies from AFLAC. Every month, I have an ocular injection in both eyes at the Retina specialist's surgery. For these injections, first the surgeon injects anaethetic into my eyes and after several minutes, the medicine is injected through my eyeball. I would like to know if AFLAC is supposed to cover a proportion of the cost for these monthly visits since these are classed as "operations".

Hi John,
The Hospital Indemnity Plan offers outpatient surgery benefit at levels 2 and 3. If your doctor is billing/coding this procedure as an outpatient surgery with anesthesia, then I would assume your Hospital Indemnity Plan would pay the benefit. Please call Aflac Client Service Call Center at 1-800-99-Aflac (1-800-992-3522) for clarification on this matter. For this particular benefit, there is no lifetime maximum on the number of procedures.
